What matters most to the company?
Our greatest focus is on the students and their experience while attending the Institute and employee satisfaction.
What did you learn from using the B Impact Assessment?
We realised that we were creating the desired impact from our day to day operations, but we were yet to document and formalize some of our procedures. We identified and targeted the areas that could be more formal and created the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures.
The assessment also helped guide our thinking in the conversations we had started in areas like environment and governing practices.
What did the company do as a result?
We put together a task force to go through the assessment, based on the different categories. We then regrouped and put together a Standard Operating Procedure for procurement – how to identify and select suppliers and the procedure to be used when entering into supplier contracts. We also put together an SOP for our health and safety practices. The organisation now wants to ensure the health and safety procedures written down are practically implemented.
Features / Improvements we are looking forward to
We are looking towards formalising the roles and expectations for the board of directors as we expand and build up the board. We also want to ensure our governance and legal structures are in place and Akilah is offering more products and services for students as we expand and restructure. Our bi-weekly newsletter will now include information on the environment and climate change.
